Cloud Readiness Checklist
A comprehensive checklist to verify cloud ownership, security, alerts, and access controls before launching applications to production.
Ensure all primary cloud provider accounts (AWS, OVH, etc.), domain registers, and DNS control nodes are registered under company emails—not personal developer accounts.
Enable hardware key or authentication app MFA on all root and administrative logins for server, domain, and database platforms.
Configure automated email/SMS budget alerts on cloud billing panels (e.g. at 50%, 80%, and 100% of expected monthly budget) to capture runaways early.
Deploy server-level monitors checking CPU spikes, RAM thresholds, storage depletion rates, and reverse-proxy errors.
Establish weekly automatic security upgrade schedules (e.g. unattended-upgrades on Ubuntu/Debian) to protect hosts from public script exploits.
Configure automated daily backup scripts shipping encrypted archives to a different provider and geological zone from your primary hosts.
Document step-by-step procedures to provision new servers, restore backup SQL dumps, and update DNS pointers in the event of primary database loss.
Confirm DNS records are proxied via Cloudflare or similar edge CDNs with restricted, auditable team member modification rights.
Use secure, team-wide password vaults. Ensure SSH key-only policies are set on all production Linux machines (disable password authentication).
Document emergency phone numbers, technical support emails, cloud vendor helpdesk priorities, and engineer escalation pipelines.
